Dear Valenture community,

It is with a heavy heart that I have to share with you that our Chancellor, Prof Robert Lue of Harvard, passed away recently after a short but intense battle with cancer. He died peacefully in bed with his husband, Alain, at his side.

My heart, and the hearts of many people who grew to know and love Rob, have been broken by this news. He was a celebrated innovator, a passionate educator, a creative, a trusted advisor, an optimist, and an art lover. A driving force.

He was particularly gifted in imagining how technology and data could be used to enhance the learning experience of students around the globe. A man with such vision and capacity, a man who changed the lives of millions through his work in education, a man who lived life to the full.

Rob was born in Jamaica to an immigrant family, and in his own words, had an extremely tough childhood. Entirely on his own steam, Rob made his way from one of the poorest areas in Kingston Jamaica to become a tenured faculty member at Harvard University.

Rob's early experiences in Jamaica shaped the ethos he subsequently lived his life by: do good and do well. Rob used every opportunity and every platform he was given to enrich the lives of others through education. If the platform wasn't there, he created it.

Rob's desire to make high quality education available through digital mediums was the driving force behind the establishment of HarvardX, EdX and LabX - each one of these projects has impacted the lives of millions of students around the world. Rob was an esteemed academic in his field of molecular and cellular biology, the author of multiple textbooks, the Unesco Chair for Social Innovation and Biology, a trusted advisor to a number of global political and business leaders, an art lover, a food lover, a dog lover, a wine lover, a huge fan of rugby shirts, and the most impressive impromptu speaker I have ever had the privilege of watching.

We were incredibly fortunate to have Rob intimately involved in the establishment of Valenture Institute. It gives me some peace to know that his legacy will live on through the education we offer our students, and the values which drive our business.

Kindest regards,

Rob Paddock, CEO of Valenture Institute
